AFRICAN ENTREPRENEURSHIP AWARD

AEA

The African Entrepreneurship Award strives to continuously improve by learning about entrepreneurs and their ecosystems. Since 2015, Award Teams have visited 130 entrepreneurs on-site, in their countries.

Countries visited are Angola, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia.

This program is to help business startups raise required funds to fully fund and start up their business with the help of ready to help mentors.

The program is also drawn with a $1m which is going to be shared amongst successful applicants. As for last year African Entrepreneurship Award, it covers the areas of Education and Environment while 2018 award is to cover the areas of Innovation and Sports.

Innovation: In innovation, entrepreneurs with good business ideas that will impact the society, solve problems that have not been solved and create employment opportunities to Africans are invited to submit their application before the end of ROUND 1.

The winners of this award are going to share the proposed $1m to start and virtualize their business goal.

Tony Elumelu Foundation

Established in 2010, The Tony Elumelu Foundation, also known as TEF, is the leading philanthropy in Africa championing entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs across the continent. The Foundation’s long-term investment in empowering African entrepreneurs is emblematic of Tony Elumelu’s philosophy of Africapitalism, which positions Africa’s private sector, and most importantly entrepreneurs, as the catalyst for the social and economic development of the continent. It provides an atmosphere for Africans to learn and become business owners.

Bank of Industry

The bank of industry targets businesses that engage in manufacturing and processing activities. Target sub-sectors include Agro-processing, Solid Minerals, Information Technology, Oil and Gas and Creative Industry. BOI’s loan support to the SME starts from N5 million. However, loan below N5 million is provided on a matching fund platform which is operated in collaboration with various state governments and on the Bottom of the Pyramid (BOP) scheme which is operated through MicroFinance Banks.
